I would call the city of Vernon, TX a one-horse town but there are way too many horses in Vernon for that to true. In fact, I think there may be more horses than people. Vernon is big on rodeos, cattle, horses, and farming which are the cities main economic industries., and high ...Read More
school football, and barbecues are the towns most popular sources of entertainment. Basically, I found Vernon to be small and plain and very country with not much to do.
When I lived in Vernon, it was like living in the past or a bad episode of the TV show "In The Heat of The Night." The population, when I lived there in 2011, was only around 11,000 people and it hasn't grown much since then. The city does have a great high school football team and it does have a shopping mall that is very popular among the city's youth.
Most of the job opportunities in Vernon are in the farming industry, cattle and horse industry, or at the Tyson food plant which processes bacon. The plant does pay well and does offer some very good benefits,
