They indeed have with the last surviving side of town (Westside), decaying right before your eyes. The typical signs are: no stores closed, empty businesses & plazas, a school system with no school board because effectively they have no schools that can pass the muster. For those unfortunate to own a very nice home in a severly depreciating Cornersburg/Millcreek area like myself I would advise suffer the loss and get out if you can and move to area that will enforce laws to maintain a healthy area. (cafield, poland, n.jackson, berlin). Hope this helps someone who thinks of a home as an investment and lack people in chg, of keeping it that way. Read Less

Youngstown, OH - Nothing but Fond Memories 4 rating By Anonymous ( Jul 23, 2010) I lived in Youngstown, Ohio when I was first married 40 years ago. I remember living right down the street from St. Elizabeth's Hospital and behind Stanbaugh Auditorium. Both are still there today, and both are still thriving as important landmarks in the city.

The school did not have much of a football program at the time, but we used to attend the games on Saturday mornings at one of the local high school football fields. The team never seemed to win, but the students had so much school spirit that it did not matter at all. The Penguins, which was the mascot and still is, were made up of willing participants who played hard. Many years later, and much to my surprise, the Youngstown State University football team became quite good and nationally respected as a Davison 1 team, the highest level in collegiate competition.

The sprit of Youngstown, Ohio is a symbol of the growth of the university and its football team, as well as the city. I have fond memories of Youngstown, Ohio. It is a proud town, based on sheer gut and innovation, and that is the heart and soul of every American city. Read Less
