      vs

      Woodstock, ON

Woodstock, known as the Dairy Capital of Canada, is Located in Southwestern Ontario, about an hour’s drive away from the Greater Toronto Area and a half hour away from London. Despite its proximity to major urban centres, Woodstock has a laidback, small town vibe with the charm of its heritage and history evident in the well-preserved buildings and city plan. It’s no wonder Woodstock is known as the “Friendly City” and from its warm community to safe neighbourhoods, our Woodstock Livability guide will show you all the reasons why.

With a reviving auto industry that is Woodstock’s biggest employer, as well as a growing tourism and manufacturing industry, job opportunities in Woodstock are rising steadily. The cost of living including housing is affordable, which along with the large residential spaces and warm atmosphere in the city’s tree lined neighbourhoods make it a popular option for families. Much of the Victorian era architecture remains standing and well preserved and are also available as residential options. Most of the administrative buildings in the downtown core and in the west end neighbourhood of Vansittart Avenue are heritage buildings giving the city a charmed and old-timey character. The city also has a strong education system, with parents getting to choose from a range of public, alternative, Catholic, Anglophone or Francophone schools.

Another highlight of Woodstock’s well- developed infrastructure is its transit services. You can get around the city on the bus services provided by Woodstock Transit and Via Rail operates services to Toronto and other stops on the Quebec City-Windsor corridor. In addition, the city is located close to provincial Highway 401, which is one of the busiest in North America.

Most Woodstock residents will tell you, the city has a vibrant cultural atmosphere with a range of theatre shows, art exhibitions and music festivals being hosted year round. Resident favourites definitely include the music festivals, which attract good crowds every year and serve as a viable seasonable income stream for many residents. Apart from the many cultural offerings you’re sure to enjoy in Woodstock, take advantage of the city’s natural beauty. Enjoy one of the many parks and hiking trails around the city, which are ideal for picnics and summertime recreational activities. Located in the heartland of farm country, nature’s abundance in Woodstock also means that you’ll get fresh fruits, vegetables and cheeses all year round.
