Pretty good place to live 4 rating By hoosierwaterfowlers ( Mar 28, 2018) One of the few places where you can open carry a side arm and not be harassed by the cops. Just make sure your legal first. The liberal agenda is not top priority here. Movie theaters and lots of decent restaurants. Declining Town Struggling to Keep Up 1.5 rating By pacmanrockshok ( Jan 12, 2016) Terre Haute is a town surviving on its two staples; racism and meth. The sight of Confederate flags aren't overwhelmingly prominent but the fact that they exist at all in a state that was part of the Union is concerning. Two of the best parts of any town are the good-hearted peop ...Read More le that inhabit it, and its cultural area. Terre Haute is lacking in both.

While I know there are good, kind, and forward-thinking people in any town, I have yet to meet any there. Their backwards and backwoods way of life is not worth the effort. While they struggle to become a viable place to raise a family, they've forgotten that one of the first things a town must strive for is forward-thinking. Driving past these homes makes me think that I could stand in one spot, spin around with my eyes closed, and point at any random house and find a drug den.

I would venture to guess that a vote for any Democratic or progressive candidate for any governmental position would be a worthless vote. The first racist, homophobic, hillbilly who finds the energy to stand up out of their cheese-puff covered chair, throw on clothing other than a white tank top and boxer briefs, and rinse their beer-stained teeth in whiskey, would be elected unanimously.

In the end, Terre Haute, Indiana is nothing more than another pit-stain town on the farthest possible outskirts of modern society. When the town inevitably collapses under the weight of its own unwillingness to become part of the world and the fact that nothing of any redeeming value exists there, it will mean that Indiana is a better state for it. Never will go back to Terre Haute 0.5 rating By MPG2000 ( Aug 06, 2012) The business area around the mall was busy with friendly fast service. We checked out the down town area which seems to have had a recent makeover. However, on a Sunday most businesses were closed except for fast food.

The number of houses for sale, foreclosed and the information about schools is shocking. The friendly community feeling is not there. Seems like the town is about to die. Read Less
Terre Haute, IN - Surprisingly, Lots To Do 3.5 rating By Anonymous ( Jul 19, 2011) Traveling to Terre Haute Indiana about three years ago was quite a pleasant surprise. There is plenty to do in the city of Terre Haute, depending on your interests. I liked the hometown feel of the smaller city and found lots of fun activities!

Along historic route 40, the stop at the 1931 gas station was quite interesting. During prohibition, this station was also a whiskey distiller station and a common area for travelers to stop.

Culturally, Terre Haute provided attractions such as the Artsillana gallery where art was on display and for sale in the old building remodeled in art deco style. Boot city Opry offered live theater performances, running about $12 per ticket, which was an inexpensive night.

The city is filled with restaurants that give you everything from a smokehouse in Rick's Smokehouse to European cuisine at Harry and Bud's. A small sushi bar is available at the Sushi Umi, boasting a beautiful ambiance and great food. Read Less
