Polkville is a wonderful place to live in my opinion. The weather is nice, and the people are nicer!!! There is an old country store, Cooke's Hometown Market, where you can basically pick up anything you need, from a good meal to a bag of horse feed. And for the carpenter in the f ...Read More
amily, a lovely local owned hardware store, Deviney Lumber, which has been positioned on the corner of the main stoplight (the only stoplight) in town. This business has adorned this same building for as long as I can remember, and the same family has ran it as well. They know the whole community, and the local men gather here most mornings for a cup of joe, and some "enlightening" conversation. There is a very active Amish Community not far outside of town, and you can often see horse drawn wagons, and some of the cutest, most well behaved kids you've ever seen peppering the streets. Horses tied to posts and trees outside the businesses here is not an uncommon sight. For several years now, we were joined by a Dollar General uptown, which allows us to stay where we are most comfortable, close to home. An amazing park with two baseball diamonds, and a tee-ball field, for some of the CUTEST little guys and gals running those bases... EVER!!!! A soccer field across the street. Where Saturday mornings in the summer are very important to lots of local kids!!! The churches inside the perimeter of the town, and those that lie outside of town limits, are very active in the community. Every July, Polkville Baptist Church puts on an AMAZING Rodeo for the town. It is a huge deal here in the town. It is a weekend long event, and it is attended by Thousands from all around the county and otherwise. Big Springs Baptist has an amazing children's program and are constantly doing all kinds of things with them. Such as their huge Halloween Party in October which is a huge success! The Town has a Community wide Parade and Festival uptown for JULY 4th, where live bands, crafters, many food vendors, and other talent fill the day full... and after dark... stay and enjoy the fireworks that fill the sky with PURE INDEPENDENCE DAY JOY!!!! This is a wonderful place to raise a family... wonderful schools, churches, activities... and not far from Charlotte (an hour drive) or Asheville (an hour and a half drive)Beautifully situated in the Foothills for easy access either direction you choose to go. A four hour drive to the beach... 30 minutes to Lake James, 25 minutes to Moss Lake. Really, a great location! And again, the nicest neighbors in the US!
