Best city in Wisconsin 5 rating By donarthom ( Nov 19, 2016) My grandma lived in La Crosse while I was growing up so we visited often. I even started visiting with my friends once we were in high school and could drive up ourselves. Just like the previous review, there was something about this town that made me want to live there. My first ...Read More chance to live there was during college. I went to UW-LAX for four years and it was the best four years of my single life (nothing compares to having planned children). There is always something going on at the La Crosse Center (big name concerts, comedy shows, sporting events, etc). There is a movie theater called The Rivoli, amazing experience every time for soooo cheap. The river keeps you busy in the summer fishing, boating or sitting on the beach. Plenty of hiking trails up the bluff and many golf courses around. Lots of shopping in nearby Onalaska with the mall. Fun fact....La Crosse, WI has the most bars per capita in the USA! There is every kind of bar here. There is a gay bar, bars that are like clubs for college kids, sit down and BS with your buddies bars for older people as well. Sports Nut has the BEST WINGS EVER. Marge's has a good cheap breakfast. There are so many great places to eat. There are plenty of places and events for small children as well. The schools have good reputations in academics and sports. China Star has some super good General Tsao's Chicken. Super large amount for like $8! There is even a Greek restaurant called Gracie's by one of the colleges, super great food for less than $10. Literally this was my favorite place of all time. I spent my four years of college here and my first year of marriage and my first son was conceived while we were still here. I wanted to live there forever, but I had just graduated college as a teacher and there were no teaching jobs in the area in my field so I had to move where I got a job. I loved it so much I contemplated just keeping my job as a waiter at BWW until a teaching job opened up but we needed health insurance, so we had to go elsewhere. This place consistently gets voted one of the best college towns in the midwest and for good reason. A lot of jobs in the area of all types and always something to do. I think house prices are a tad high, but it is so worth it. I should move back.... Read Less
La Crosse, WI - Great Weather & Much More! 4.5 rating By Anonymous ( Apr 23, 2012) The hidden gem of the Midwest, La Crosse WI has long been one of the most beautiful cities the United States has to offer. Braced by the Mississippi River, La Crosse has ideal weather with the warmest month of the year rarely exceeding 86 degrees. As a Wisconsin native I first la ...Read More id eyes on the city of La Crosse as a child and decided then and there where I would spend my adult years. I have since lived in La Crosse for the last 14 years and enjoy every moment of it. This quiet college community boasts a warmth that only a sense of well-being can provide. On clear days you can make the trek up Grandad Bluff and soak in the view of the three states region.

An excess of 20 schools of all levels including 3 universities are indicative of the well-rounded nature of the city. Home of the 2007 best natural tasting water award, La Crosse WI provides an inviting atmosphere for the visitor and the resident alike. Within a couple hours drive from Chicago and the ever popular Wisconsin Dells, a change of pace for those searching for a bit more activity is well within range. Plenty of highways, shopping venues, bars and clubs are in the downtown business district for a night out on the town. La Crosse Wisconsin provides an unforgettable experience for its college students and visitors which will serve them well into the future. Moving to La Crosse WI was the best choice I have ever made, and once you visit I'm sure you'll agree. Read Less
