DO NOT MOVE TO FINNEYTOWN if you are a family 1 rating By 10yrresident ( Feb 24, 2017) Let me start this off by saying that we moved here 10 years ago when the school system was still good. Our kids were about 3 years away from starting school at that point. When it came time to start school, we noticed that the district was having a ton of issues with low income ...Read More housing residents having children who were having behavioral issues. The school was overwhelmed. They had an influx of children, who in kindergarten, were throwing chairs at teachers, cursing and abusing other students. This is NOT an exageration. My daughter was lucky that within her Kindergarten classroom there were not many issues, but in speaking to other parents, there were HUGE disciplinary issues.By the time my daughter was in 3rd grade she had been assaulted 8 times. The school doesn't like to call it assault when it is a "child" however if in the real world, a man took his fist to a womans face for not giving him a glue stick promptly, he would be arrested. Should the child have been arrested? No. But a time out in the principals office, and a call to his parents was not an appropriate action. The very next day he tried to choke her on the play ground. The next action taken by the school was a few days of no recess. We were so confused as to why no suspension. We were told that he was "rubber stamped" by the state and that his behavioral issues were seen as a disability, and that there was little to nothing they could do other than what they did..... what the....We started looking into the costs of selling our home and moving to a new district. At the time, houses were not selling, we decided since she was moving up to their next school named Whitaker, that we would give it another chance. We are active within the school as parents, volunteers and we hoped that would help us be able to keep a better watch. We were wrong. As these students, who are "rubber stamped" (and there are a TON of them) got older, their violence became harder to contain. So much so, that the principle at the time Dr. Kessling stated an inability to keep the other children safe from these kids. There were more reports of choking, assault (physical and sexually), reports of children being drug mules for their parents who were selling (two 6th graders were taken into custody for bringing weed to school to give to another child, who gave them money from their parents.... how sick and twisted is that!?!?), yet these kids STILL attend the school... I guess being a drug mule is a disability too... That principal left, and now they have a new one.. who has to do more work because she has to attend to two campuses, and it is EVEN WORSE. SEVEN of our friends are currently moving, who have kids at the middle school and High School. They say that it is like the WILD WEST at the Secondary (high school and middle school) Campus. Teachers getting shoved into walls, yet those students are back days later. Teachers getting threats, teachers not being able to control classrooms, teachers getting spit at and yelled at by students into their faces. Students getting assaulted in the hallways, BULLIED to the point several have tried self harming. The school does NOTHING for the victims, other than to victimize them further by making it known who they are so that they can be tormented further by the bullies. Kids having sexual encounters in the library on the couches... WHERE THE HELL ARE THE STAFF??? Assaults at games, after games and parents condoning it and often joining in. Recently there were parents who were at the High School dropping theid kids off to school and they had a physical altercation....DO NOT MOVE YOUR FAMILY TO FINNEYTOWN. There are some great people and great kids here, but the overwhelming amount of kids and parents who have ZERO CARE for learning or their own childs well being out numbers the rest. I am so happy we have sold our home and will be moving to a better district. Im not blind to the fact that every school has its issues... Im just tired of FINNEYTOWN acting blind about the horrible state its schools are in, and I will NOT risk my childrens well being because they can not get the parents and students of these children in order.Require these kids to get help, and require their parents to be responsible. Stand up for the good kids instead of victimizing them further. STAND UP TO THE STATE OF OHIO AND TELL THEM THE REALITY OF WHAT IS HAPPENING. If you cared about the students and staff... you would. Bedroom community 4 rating By Janet ( Oct 29, 2013) Family friendly small suburb of Cincinnati, Ohio. Very good public school system with 2 parochial grade schools. Very good fire and police departments that have won awards over the years. Municipal services get high rating, especially for snow removal in winter. We have lived ...Read More in 2 different areas of the community for 45 years , both times our houses have been on dead end streets. Snow has always been removed during first day of snowfall. Community has many parks dedicated to sports activities and children's playgrounds. Safe walking community. Able to purchase groceries at major grocery chain and several small stores. Able to buy just about anything possible witin 10 miles of community. Close access to major expressways. Sits approximately in middle of what is known as Greater Cincinnati.
Definetly recommend. Read Less
