Write a review about Fargo Tell people what you like or don't like about Fargo…
If Fargo was a cast member of Tiger King, it would be Jeff Lowe 3 rating By Anonymous ( May 02, 2020) I've lived in ND my whole life, been in Fargo 10 years. Fargo is definitely the best city in ND to be in, but that isn't saying much. I very much believe everything is a matter of perspective, but this is mine. I have a predisposition to want to explore and try new things, I have ...Read More wanderlust pretty bad as I'm 31 and haven't done much. I can see how some people may feel the opposite, they've lived the fast-paced life and now want to slow down. Fargo fits the bill. There's JUST enough to do to get you out of the house on a semi-regular basis, but don't expect big things to be happening consistently. Approximately one big name musical performer comes here per year, Bruno Mars, Pink, Katy Perry, etc. There is a varied music scene, check out the Aquarium for more obscure acts. People here love sports, mostly their Bison football. If you like football, you'll fit in just fine here. The people here are also varied, more than you might expect. We get migrant workers because construction jobs pay high here since the season to do so is so short. This is also true for farming. We also get refugees. So we're varied, however there is an overwhelming sentiment of rigid, ignorant thinking. We're a red state after all. There's this saying of "Minnesota/North Dakota nice." You see that in rural settings, neighbors treating each other as family. I guess I don't see it in the cities. I see us as more indifferent/reserved towards new people, with the caveat that there's a decent chance someone will stop to help pull you out of the snow you thought you could ram your Honda Civic through. Regarding school from kids to college, it's pretty neutral. Not bad and not exceptional. Some schools are better at dealing with things like IEP's than others but you can petition to go to a different school if you want. NDSU is a decent school I went there for undergrad. Another thing worth noting is the difference between Fargo and Moorhead. Moorhead is technically Minnesota and we're separated by the Red River (don't swim or eat anything out of it fyi) Rent/mortgage payments are cheaper on the MN side, but you pay more in other ways. Things like property taxes and utilities are significantly higher. Also another huge thing about owning a home is this awful thing called "special assessments." Google it before you buy a home. My house payment as went up $400/month in 4 years due to these, and there's no end in sight because I'm in a new development. Nightlife is ok, USA Today says we're the drunkest state in the nation. There isn't a shortage of places to drink, or people to drink with. However there is a shortage of nice nightclubs, and by shortage I mean none. Sure there are places to do the cupid shuffle but not places with a dress code and VIP table reservations. Those are the things I can think of off the top of my head. All in all, it's not a bad place to live despite it probably sounding less than thrilling. But it is, less than thrilling. If that's your jam, then grab some peanut butter and practice your "ope," future Fargoan. Read Less
Fargo, ND - More Cultural than Expected 4 rating By Anonymous ( May 20, 2010) Fargo is more of a cultural town, and there are more art museums and crafts fairs. The Red River Zoo is a fun attraction and has lots of cool interactions with some of the animals. The Fargo Theater is fun because of its stadium type seating and the option to order pizza or nacho ...Read More s and they bring them to your seat.

The nicer looking communities are in Fargo are West Acres, West Fargo, Moorhead and Hector Airport. Downtown area looks really run down and is filled with litter and the streets are confusing.

Sarello's is the best restaurant in Fargo wtih its five star Italian cuisine. The atmosphere is wonderful and the music is even better. The vegetables and bread were so fresh and the wine list was so long I almost couldn't decide. Fargo has lots of bars, my favorite is Playmakers. It is an awesome sports bar that has five big screens to catch the Vikings games on. There are also billiards and dart tournaments going on monthly within the bar.

Moorhead Center Mall in the downtown area filled with diverse cuisine and nail and hair shops. The West Acres Shopping Center is the higher end mall that has all of the more expensive stores. Read Less

Compare Fargo, ND Livability

      vs

      Fargo, ND

Don't you know that Fargo is home to over 120,000 people, easily making it the largest city in all of North Dakota. The city lies on the banks of the Red River of the North, and Fargo offers those looking to buy or rent a home a lot of property for the money. The Red River Zoo is one of the area's top attractions, and it is a real hit with families who have young children. The city is also home to the North Dakota State University.

Residents of Fargo can do all of their shopping at the city's Costco. Large employers in the city include the aforementioned university, Innovis Healthcare, and Phoenix International Corporation. For a time, Fargo was known as the divorce capital of the United States since the 1800s were a time period when laws governing the practice were relaxed in the area. Today, there are many happily married couples in Fargo that have kids who go to the city's great public schools.

Traffic is not a concern in Fargo as the city's roadways were designed to accommodate the growth that the city has experienced. MATBUS is the city's public transit providers. Using their phone application, you can easily plan your entire route or check the timetable to see when your bus is due to arrive at your stop. Getting around the city by bike is also a possibility since the city has invested a lot of taxpayer dollars developing a network of bike lanes.

The Plains Art Museum is home to the finest collection of art in North Dakota, and it houses a large collection of Native American art that will leave you wowed. The area benefits from a rich German and Scandinavian heritage that is also on display when you visit the museum. Bonanzaville USA is a fun wild-west themed park where you can take your kids to show them what life used to be like back in the days when the cowboys and Native Americans roamed the plains.

Those looking to buy a home in Fargo can certainly live in the downtown area. This lifestyle offers residents a chance to enjoy the area's small independently owned and operated restaurants. It is also the area where you will find the city's best bars and nightclubs. Those looking to get out to the suburbs should look for houses in the Bluemont Lakes or Washington subdivisions.

The quality of life in Fargo is high, and the residents of the city can watch one of the best college hockey teams in the nation take the ice during the season at the FargoDome. For a good life that won't break the bank, Fargo is a great choice.
