Me and my two teenage children moved to Edenton in the fall of 2011. I only moved here because I found a nice 3 bedroom house really cheap, now I know why. There is NOTHING here! There are empty store fronts, dilapidated buildings everywhere, trash is always on the side of the ro ...Read More
ad, and sometimes at the waterfront in town. There's a lot of shoplifting, and personal theft. Maybe that's because there are NO jobs, and there's nothing here for the teenagers to do except to get in trouble. (which does not excuse bad behavior.) My son didn't like anyone at school because all the guys talked about was getting high, and shooting poor animals. He's going to NC STATE in the spring, and he can't wait. My daughter hated it here too. The kids at school were really mean to her because she was different, and didn't look like all the other plain looking redneck girls. People even look at me like I'm from outerspace. I have NEVER lived in a place so full of hatred, close-minded and ignorance people in all my life! If you're not from here, forgot about it! You are NOT welcome! And don't be fooled when someone is nice to your face, because as soon as you turn your back, they're talking junk about you! And the way they treat their animals is barbaric! There are homeless cats, and dogs living outside without a doghouse, or their living in cages! And it seems most people out here don't know what spay or neuter means. All those poor animals...
Edenton is NOT "The prettiest town in NC." And its most certainly isn't the friendliest town either. I imagine years from now it will be a ghost town, if the town doesn't change their ways. If you want to retire in NC, I would suggest Maggie Valley. Now that is a pretty town. Corolla or Kitty Hawk is beautiful too. I moved here because I had to go on disability, and unfortunately I may die here, but if I keep to myself, and do most of my shopping in Elizabeth City, it's not all bad. It makes living here more tolerable. Elizabeth City is pretty cool. The people there are nice, and there's more to do. So keep all this in mind, before you move to the swamplands.
