afraid to at least get the word out anymore.
Firstly, it's disheartening to note the lack of professionalism and respect demonstrated by many staff members towards students. Teachers, in particular, often display favouritism towards students involved in sports teams or more popular/talkative students, neglecting those who require additional support. Requests for assistance are met with disregard or, worse yet, hostility, leaving students feeling stressed and ignored, This has led to many students being too scared to ask questions in the future.
One concerning instance involves a teacher who exhibits inappropriate behaviour towards students, particularly boys. Not only does she fail to provide adequate instruction, relying on outdated materials, but she also crosses boundaries by making students uncomfortable with unwanted physical contact. This behaviour is unacceptable and should be addressed.
Another teacher has issues with grading consistency and accountability. The teacher takes months to grade an assignment, and if this teacher loses a student's assignment it is blamed on the student, leading to unjust consequences such as detentions. Certain students are unfairly targeted, further exacerbating feelings of frustration.
Furthermore, the school's approach to supporting students with mental health issues is sadly inadequate, Despite the preaching of the importance of mental health, practical accommodations are lacking. Every student deserves access to tailored support to facilitate their learning and well-being, yet this fundamental principle is often overlooked and judged.
On the mental health note, I knew a student who had been treated horribly here. They went through many years of getting yelled at in the office and halls for their anxiety attacks, One particular time a few years back they had a severe panic attack where they froze in space they couldn't move or speak, instead of anyone getting help they needed at the time instead they were yelled at and pulled out of the way and forced to sit down in the office. That is something that would traumatize a child, making them believe they deserve to be called down for having big feelings and emotions. They had also gone through a few years of getting mean comments from teachers and being too scared to come to school till it got to the point where they thought the best option was to give up on their education.
No child should by any means be treated that way, to have to give up on their future just because they feel so horrible in an environment that they have to be in every day, No student needs to be screeched at for little to nothing.
I also know another student who is very shy and doesn't speak up when asked a question due to anxiety about getting the question wrong, this happened so many times the previous principal of the school dragged the student into her office and screamed at the student that they needed to speak up or they'd get a detention.
A systemic overhaul is necessary to address these deeply ingrained issues. Merely observing teaching practices sporadically is insufficient; genuine change requires a concerted effort to foster a culture of accountability and inclusivity. Teachers must be held to higher standards, and support systems for students must be prioritized more. A lot of the teaching staff here deserve to be fired.
In sharing my concerns, I hope to raise awareness and advocate for meaningful reform. Every student deserves an education free from discrimination and mistreatment. It's my sincere hope that by shedding light on these issues, Those in charge can work towards creating a safer and more supportive learning environment for all.
I hope others who see this review will speak up with their stories and get the change these students need.
