I wanted to write to warn an future travelers about the toxic environment in Darien, Georgia. Toxic is an appropriate description at all levels. The water stinks and is undrinkable, the air is very bad from industrial pollution and the people are racist and unfriendly: toxic. My ...Read More
family and I stayed at the Hampton in in Darien for one night. One night too long. The hotel was dirty, the water, as mentioned earlier, stunk and the people at the hotel were disinterested and incompetent. We ate at two of the downtown restaurants at lunch and dinner. The seafood was terrible. It tasted old and was cooked poorly. The service at the restaurants was as bad as the service at my hotel. Rudeness and stupidity must be a prerequisite to live in Darien! Once we returned home I did some research on Darien, Georgia. I asked my corporate attorney to assist me with the research. What we found was more than interesting. Several of the police officers in Darien appear to have criminal records that include a number of felonies. The law breakers seem to be charged with maintaining law. This is very appropriate as Darien is known for its drug trafficking activities. Looks like the Darien cops may be drawing more pay than just their salaries. We also checked out the city attorney, Mr. Braun. He proudly posts his academic achievements at Georgia Southern University. Looking at the credentials of the Law Department , and their graduation standards, he would be better served getting a degree from Walmart. At least it would be more recognizable. Mr. Braun appears to own a number of properties around the Darien, Georgia area. It stuck us as very odd that someone drawing local government pay could own so many expensive properties in the area. Maybe the drug traffickers have retained Mr. Braun as their legal counsel ! We are still researching the judges who preside over the area courts but expect to find the same potential level of corruption in the courts as we have found elsewhere. Darien, Georgia is a dangerous place to visit or even travel through. It is filled with all kinds of criminal behavior that goes unchecked and people who are unfriendly, slovenly and rude. Be warned. Stay away from Darien, Georgia!
