Compare Charlottetown, PE Livability

      vs

      Charlottetown, PE

Charlottetown in Prince Edward Island is without a doubt a beautiful place to live, with a beautiful landscape that includes plentiful lakes and rivers and beaches. The city has an excellent reputation for safety, a high quality of life, friendly communities and affordable housing. With growing employment opportunities, the city is attracting an increase in immigration and our Charlottetown Livability guide will show you all the reasons why.

Rent in Charlottetown is quite affordable and low costs of transportation and utilities also help keep the cost of living low, which contributes to Charlottetown’s reputation as one of the most affordable cities in Canada. In addition to being inexpensive, the city’s economy is slowly growing as many private sector employers in the chemicals and bio-technology industries move in to create jobs.

Part of the city’s charm is its rich heritage that combines urban and rural qualities. Old Charlottetown is the downtown core and is home to many historical buildings of great character. This area has been well preserved and retains its old world charm. If this is the kind of environment you’d like to live in, you should also consider Brighton, which has a number of old Victorian homes and newer developments from the 1970s as well. As you move away from the downtown core, you’ll find vast expanses of suburban lands, such as Sherwood in the north-east portion of the city.

One of the perks of living in Charlottetown is the sea and the many beautiful waterfront spots and spaces the city offers. Take a seal-watching cruise to enjoy the best of both Charlottetown’s sea life as well as its picturesque historic harbour, or spend a day walking around Peake’s Quay, a characteristic area with boutique shopping and dining options along on the marina. Victoria Park combines a beautiful harbour front boardwalk and woodland walking trails, as well as facilities for tennis matches, swimming, ball games and playgrounds for children. While any Charlottetown homeowner will list the number of dining options the city offers, one place you must visit is Cow’s Ice Cream. This local favourite also sells various cow themed merchandise and memorabilia and is consistently ranked as one of the best ice cream parlours in Canada.
