Oh, This Place... User Rating 2 rating By Anonymous ( Oct 24, 2022) Bryan is a small town, and it shows. There's really nothing to do, and the residents are... typical... for a small town. Lots of hunters, who drive pickup trucks, blast country music, and shoot off fireworks in their backyards the entire week of July 4th. You know the kind. Basically retro Americana, but make it redneck.

Most young people leave. Anyone with money generally moves to North Carolina. Same vibe with better weather.

We have a couple of hipster hangouts (Father John's Microbrewery and Kora's Brew House) which are both violently overhyped by the easily impressed. Other than that, you're relegated to McDonald's and other fast food chains. Walmart is the social center of the town and also the main employer. They understaff and treat their employees poorly (aka, every business in Bryan), but the pay rate is actually decent so I see the appeal.

If you don't fancy working a register, we also have glamourous factory jobs at Spangler's or Ohio Art. I'm led to believe they're soul-crushing.

For entertainment, we have a small movie theater and a bowling alley that's never open. (I haven't forgiven them.)

Honestly, we do have some nice parks. Moore Park is good for walking. It has a nice trail, a couple of playgrounds, a new interactive fountain, and an outdoor amphitheater (in case you want your country music fresh instead of canned.) It's the one thing I'll miss when I move.

What else? Typical Midwest weather. Four seasons: Wet spring, wet summer, wet autumn, and wet winter. Everything is wet. Always. Ohio is a swamp. We have some nice, lush greenery because of it, but you get sick of the wet after a while. We don't have drought, fire, or hurricanes ever, or tornadoes very often, so that's a plus.

The local hospital is bad. Ask anyone from Bryan and they'll have a unique horror story for you. They changed CEOs after a harassment scandal, but they don't seem much improved for it.

Generally speaking, only come here if you have family in the area or if you really enjoy small-town conservative living (with everything that entails) and have a job lined up/are willing to work in a factory. Read Less
