My husband and I have lived in Adairsville for approximately 14 years. The millage rate is rather high, so property taxes are high for such a quiet, boring little town. There is only 1 upscale restaurant and it is located at Barnsley Gardens Resort. It so happens that Barnsley Ga ...Read More
rdens is, pretty much, the ONLY attraction and if you don't have a fat wallet, then there are NO attractions in the city. The downtown area is quaint and there are a few little shops along the main street. The police station, City Hall, a restaurant and a fantastic beauty salon (Hair clips by Melissa). The animal control ordinance (Bartow County ordinance is in effect since Adairsville has not written their own ordinance) is RIDICULOUS because it puts dogs and cats in the same category as far as what is considered an "at large" animal. This means that your dog AND CAT must be 1.) Confined within a fence 2.) on a leash 2.) Trained on voice command. Here is an excerpt: " ... the animal is enclosed in a fence or other enclosure sufficient to contain the animal; the animal is contained by an electronic fence and shock collar or similar technology; the animal is tethered consistent with subparagraph (b); or the animal is under direct voice command." And here is the definition of "Direct Voice Command": "... Direct voice command. To qualify as under direct voice command, the person must be 1) outside with the animal, 2) in close proximity to the animal, and 3) the animal must be demonstrably responsive to voice commands. A person inside a structure shall not be considered under this section to have voice command over an animal that is outside. Close proximity shall mean within a distance where the animal can respond to spoken (not shouted) commands." Jeez, really people? Get over yourselves. My cats climb fences and they are on "Direct Sound of a Can of Cat Food Opening" command. I wonder if that counts?? It is beyond obvious that the person responsible for authoring the ordinance despises cats. There is a very low tolerance for "at large" animals and the first offense, even if your pet was not aggressive, is $250.00. Oh! And if you receive a traffic citation in Adairsville, you will be paying one of the highest fine amounts around! Adairsville has more than it's share of murders, domestic violence and other crimes. I don't feel it is unsafe to live in Adairsville, but it's not the safest community in the world. The police officers are very reasonable and helpful.
